Sayaka Maizono was a character in the game Danganronpa:Trigger Happy Havoc, she is the "Ultimate Pop Sensation". She was murdered by Leon Kuwata in Chapter 1 after trying to murder him herself. She had hoped to pin her murder on Makoto Naegi.
During her time in the Academy, she comes across as bubbly and friendly, notably towards Makoto. However, she tends to hide her true feelings, only revealing them to people who she considers friends. She also comes across as a very dedicated individual, pushing her dream of becoming a bigger idol to the extreme. Even though she is a massive pop idol, she also enjoys cooking.
Sayaka obviously spends a lot of care and attention to her appearance, she looks immaculate to many and wears a lot of makeup. She has long, dark blue hair. She wears a massive pink bow on her blue blouse during her time at Hope's Peak Academy. Her "Pop Sensation" outfit is very different, she wears a pink frilled dress, white boots and a large pink bow in her hair.
Maizono often spent her time alone in her household, only being raised by her father who worked away frequently. She seen pop idols on the television and this became a comfort to her, even leading her to be inspired to becoming one, she went to Black Root High School in 2003 as a freshman.
Sayaka and Makoto attended the same school, but were not close due to them not being in the same classes. She witnessed Makoto freeing an injured Crane that was trapped in the school and this moved her. Ever since then, she has been wanting to get to know Makoto in depth. However, this did not happen and the two graduated from the high school without getting to know each other.
During the start of the game, the two got to know each other more and Sayaka declared herself as Makoto's assistant.
Monokuma gave all of the students a DVD individually to act as a motive for murder. On Sayaka's DVD, it contained a clip of her fellow pop performers. The DVD became muffled and it looked like the performers were either severally injured or deceased. This pushed Sayaka to the extreme, to attempt to kill Leon in order to escape the Academy.
Desperate to get out of the Academy, Sayaka turned to extreme measures and slipped a message under Leon's door, ordering him to come and see her in her room. She attempted to frame Makoto by switching the nameplates of her's and Makoto's door. She let Leon into her room and used the knife that she earlier retrieved from the kitchen to attempt to kill Leon. However, her plan backfired and Leon killed Sayaka in the shower room. With the last of her strength, Sayaka wrote a dying message, indicating the culprit's name in her own blood on the wall. Kyoto mentioned that this could have been an attempt to redeem herself for framing Makoto.
It is believed that Sayaka had a crush on Makoto and was too nervous to say this to anybody. During the last conversation before her Report Card is complete, she confesses her feelings towards Makoto, asking him if he had a girlfriend.
During Leon's Free Time Events, Leon asked Makoto if Sayaka has any interests in any guys. It can mean that Leon perhaps have a crush on her. In the manga, Leon is the most person who respects her because of her talents. He even dreams of being an Ultimate Musician. In the manga, Sayaka chose Leon to come to meet her because she knows he has a crush on her and can be easy to kill. It does not mean that Sayaka hates Leon. Sayaka did it for the purpose of her escaping from living hell full of despair.
