Kyoko Kirigiri is a student that attended Hope's Peak Academy as the Ultimate Detective in Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. She joined the school with no one knowing what her Ultimate talent was, even she had forgotten after the Despair Event and had her memory wiped as it posed a threat to the Mastermind. She was one of the students to survive the last trial and graduate from the school of Mutual Killing. She later made a return in Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. It is discovered that she joined the Future Foundation after the events of the first game. She also has her own light novel based on her entitled Dangan Ronpa Kirigiri.

[edit] Appearance

Kyoko is a pale, slim student with long, lavender-colored hair and purple eyes. She has a braid on one side of her hair, tied with a black ribbon, and a full fringe. She wears a black jacket, a white blouse, a brown tie, a black skirt and black-heeled boots. She also wears black, customised gloves in order to cover her scars she received when she was an amateur detective. The gloves have twelve studs on them, forming a rectangular pattern on the front of the glove.

[edit] Personality

Kyoko, at first, is very cold towards Makoto, often shooing him away during Free Time. She is cold to a lot of the other students too, causing them to speculate what her Ultimate title is and mention how mysterious she is. Despite her coldness, Kyoko is an emotional girl, with her personality being easily swayed at the discovery of the headmaster's office password being her name. Subsequently, she discovered the remains of her father, the headmaster, is a box with her name on it. Rattled, she shown signs of disgust and anger.

She is completely unfazed about the events of a murder and keeps a level head during trials. She examines the majority of bodies of victims in Trigger Happy Havoc. She proves to be a valuable ally for Makoto Naegi to get to the bottom of murders and their motives, and eventually, discovering the truth of Hope's Peak Academy.

She is also very conscious about the scars on her hands, suggesting that she might be a little self-conscious. She hides the scars on her hands with specialised gloves. Her injuries were inflicted when she was an amateur detective.

Like the other students, Kyoko is suffering from amnesia, but a more severe form. Kyoko initially has no memory of being a detective, or what her ultimate title is. As the story progresses, Kyoko learns more about herself, including that she was a detective, and so her Ultimate title was the "Ultimate Detective". Her memory was wiped due to her being a threat in unmasking the Mastermind.

[edit] History

[edit] Pre-Despair

During the investigation and trial stages of the school she would often help Makoto Naegi reach vital conclusions in solving the trial. After sometime in the school her memories were recovered, revealing her to be the Ultimate Detective and the daughter of the High School's Headmaster, Jin Kirigiri. She originally enrolled in the school to meet him one last time and sever all ties with him after he abandoned the family to become a Headmaster rather than hold the tradition and become a Detective. The rest of her past is displayed in the novel Dangan Ronpa Kirigiri which takes place in 2001 as a 13-year old Kyoko.

[edit] Relationships

[edit] Makoto Naegi

The two develop quite a close relationship in Trigger Happy Havoc, with Kyoko trusting Makoto solely for investigation purposes. Kyoko helps Makoto to clear his name in Sayaka Maizono's murder trial and identifies the real killer.

Throughout the game, Kyoko shows how much she cares for Makoto. This is evident when she saves Makoto's life twice. The first time, Junko Enoshima was about to stab Makoto in his own room whilst he had a fever. Kyoko intervened and "scared" Junko off. The second time, Makoto faced execution in the After School Lesson. Alter Ego gained control of the trash compactor just as it was about to crush him, with Kyoko diving down the hatch in order to save Makoto from death via the fall into the basement.

[edit] Jin Kirigiri

Not much is known about Kyoko's and Jin's father/daughter relationship, but they were not close. Kyoko claimed that Jin used her mother's death in order for him to leave the family home. They never spoke to each other much, and their relationship was quite cold.

When Kyoko found her father's remains, she remained emotionless. She did not open the box, Makoto did, showing that she might have already knew that her father was deceased.
